The Best Senior Photo Locations in Tippecanoe County

Your senior photos should look like you, and the right location does half the work! The good news if you live in Tippecanoe County: within a 20-minute drive you can go from limestone university buildings to brick downtown alleys to open prairie and river overlooks. After plenty of sessions around Lafayette, West Lafayette and Battle Ground, these are the spots I keep coming back to, plus what each one is best for.

Purdue University campus

Purdue is the classic pick for a polished, collegiate look, and the campus exteriors are open to the public. Purdue's brand guidelines note that outdoor shoots on campus are generally fine, while building interiors need a heads-up to the building deputy.

• Purdue Bell Tower and Memorial Mall — Red brick, big shade trees and wide lawns. Gorgeous in October when the leaves turn.

• Engineering Fountain and Purdue Mall — Bold and modern. Great for a playful splash shot on a warm day.

• Academy Park and the State Street corridor — Clean architecture and leading lines for a more urban, editorial feel.

• Horticulture Park — A quiet, wooded pocket on the west side of campus with soft light and a natural look.

Tip: Skip game days and move-in weekends unless you love crowds in the background. Weekday evenings and summer are the easiest times on campus.

Downtown Lafayette and the Wabash riverfront

Downtown is my favorite for seniors who want an urban, magazine-style look without leaving town.

• Tippecanoe County Courthouse — The ornate courthouse square is one of the most striking backdrops in the state. Columns, stone steps and detailed architecture make every frame feel timeless.

• Main Street brick and murals — Colorful murals, old storefronts and textured brick walls are perfect for a bold, fun outfit change.

• John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge — Connecting Lafayette and West Lafayette over the Wabash, it gives you long lines, open sky and an incredible sunset view.

• Tapawingo Park and the riverfront — Just across the bridge on the West Lafayette side, with grass, paths and the river for a softer, relaxed look.

Parks, prairie and nature spots

If you want soft, natural, golden-hour photos, these are the places to go.

• Prophetstown State Park (Battle Ground) — Rolling prairie, tall grasses and wildflowers where the Tippecanoe and Wabash rivers meet. In late summer the prairie glows at sunset, and it's my top pick for a dreamy, wide-open look.

• Celery Bog Nature Area (West Lafayette) — Boardwalks, marsh grasses and wooded trails. It's ideal for a calm, earthy session and works in every season.

• Columbian Park (Lafayette) — Gardens, the lagoon, old trees and charming bridges. Great variety in one stop, especially in spring when everything blooms.

• Happy Hollow Park and Ross Hills Park — Wooded ravines, creeks and trails with dappled light. A favorite for seniors who love the outdoors.

Tip: Prophetstown is a state park, so professional sessions there fall under Indiana DNR's commercial photography rules. The DNR permit is $100 per calendar year and includes an annual pass. Your photographer should handle this, but it's worth asking, I do! :)

Tips for planning your session

• Shoot at golden hour. The hour before sunset gives soft, glowing light at nearly every location on this list.

• Pick your season. Spring brings blooms at Columbian Park, summer means green prairie at Prophetstown, and fall turns Purdue and the Battlefield gold and red.

• Combine two looks. Downtown and the pedestrian bridge pair easily, as do Purdue and Tapawingo Park. You get urban and natural in one session.

• Match your outfits to the backdrop. Solid colors and textures pop against brick and stone. Earth tones and flowy fabrics shine in prairie and woods.

• Bring something personal. A letterman jacket, instrument, sports gear or even your dog makes the photos truly yours.
